The UP-ATS has arrested two 'wanted' members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) from Varanasi and taken into custody 70 others from 20 districts in a statewide crackdown. The two arrested men carried a reward of ₹50,000 and were wanted in a case registered at Lohta police station of Varanasi in 2022. The arrested individuals were booked under IPC sections 153-A and 153-B and sections under the UAPA. The ADG stated that the accused were propagating the PFI?s ideology and spreading the body?s cadre base in the country.
